FRINGE WORLD 2015

19 01 2015

Hey gang. It’s been a while between drinks, but as usual I’ve been busy working behind-the-scenes wearing my Producer’s Hat and I’m so excited to finally launch into 2015 with a bunch of exciting shows at the Fringe World Festival and a new position as Artistic Director of Weeping Spoon Productions.

Firstly, my play TRAMPOLINE returns to Perth for the first time at the Fringe Festival and with two incredible new cast members joining me onstage from Jan 23rd. It’s been a blast having two of my favourite performers, the ridiculously multi-talented Ella Hetherington and Brendan Ewing, help create a really fun, fresh take on the show. Dare I say, the best yet. Tickets on sale here.

saf2I’m also joining my good friends from the States, Sound And Fury for their 2015 Australian Tour, performing in Hamlet and Juliet and Hitchcocked. Be sure to check out their website for tour dates and times at Fringe World and The Adelaide Fringe.

Beyond that I’ll also be in Adelaide with the return of the Blue Room Award winning This Is Not A Love song at Tuxedo Cat. Tegan Mulvany and Greg Fleet are back and joining us this time around is muso Mick Moriarty of GUD and The Gadfly’s fame.

I should also mention I’m (ever so briefly) in the feature film Paper Planes, currently playing across Australia. You should go see it.

IN THE FUTURE…

2015 is looking like it’s going to be a big year for Weeping Spoon. In the second part of this year there’s some big news in regards to Canada and some brand NEW works (plural!) from my brain this year which I am really excited plus some really awesome collaborations about but more on that once I get through Fringe.

A few new Trampoline Reviews

14 05 2014

There’s been some lovely reviews popping up around Montreal (and one from our recent Perth season) that I thought I’d share.  We still have three shows left May 14, 16 and 17 at Mainline Theatre, tickets available ONLINE or at the door!

“Adamczak’s trademark lighthearted humour will appreciate an interesting change of pace as this dark comedy reveals moments of real heartbreak… But that’s not to say your face won’t hurt from laughing as you leave the theatre. Layered and touching, Trampoline is a gorgeous piece of theatre you won’t soon forget.” -Bloody Underrated

“This is a well written and cleverly acted play that will delight and amuse but also make you questions your notions of normal” – The Australian Times

“Adamczak again displays his natural ability to completely immerse himself in his characters and draw the audience into his world. Along with the equally excellent performances by Stevie and Vance  the play is both touching and hilarious.” – Culture Plus

New review for TRAMPOLINE

8 04 2014

Check out this sweet review for our Subiaco season of Trampoline on Perthculture.com.

“Shane Adamczak is a comic writing genius in my book. His short play Trampoline is one of the most endearingly whimsical love stories to grace the small stage I’ve ever seen. It packs such a ‘feel good’ punch that once its finished you’ll want to go straight back into the theatre and watch it all over again.” -PerthCulture.com

Bounce back.

3 11 2013

Wow. What a trip.

Last week we finished up our “critically acclaimed” sold-out world debut season of TRAMPOLINE and I’m still finding it hard to put into words just how truly amazing it was. We had such amazing crowds, overwhelming great reviews and such positive feedback from the general public. For my first show back in Australia and my first brand new show in a few years, I was so relived to have the play so well received. I must admit, I put a lot of pressure on myself with this project, it was a huge undertaking, but I really couldn’t have asked for a better result. I am so incredibly proud of the show and all the people involved, this reminded my why I do what I do and why I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.

I want to say a MASSIVE thanks to my cast-mates Ben and Amanda, who really brought the characters in this show to Iife in a way I could’ve never imaged, I am so honoured to work with you both. To our director Damon, thank you for pushing us in each rehearsal to really bring the text to life and give it the heart, comedy and pathos it deserved. Our Stage Manager Louise who came on board fairly last minute but became an invaluable and extremely joyous member of our team and I hope we can all work together again soon. Thanks also to Mike deGrussa, Cherie Hewson, all at The Blue Room Theatre and all else who helped work on the show.

“Working with a strong script, skilful technical support and talented comic actors, Trampoline is a perfect dream for creators and audiences alike… Short, sweet, quirky, produced with passion – Trampoline has all the elements that demonstrate why The Blue Room Theatre is such a vital part of Perth’s cultural milieu. ✭✭✭✭1/2″ – artsHubs.com.au

COMING SOON another Canadian show debuts in Oz! I will getting ROTTEN again and rocking that hideous bright orange hair again when Vicious Circles makes it’s way to Perth and Adelaide for a few festivals early 2014 and I for one, cannot wait for Aussies to see the sweatiest, dirtiest, more-drugged fucked punk-rock play ever. Keep an eye for “official” announcements for dates and venues soon! In the meantime you can help support the show by donating to the VICIOUS CIRCLE INDIEGOGO CAMPAIGN here and help pay to bring over the Montreal cast. We would really like it if you did that.

Trampoline – Week 2 – REVIEWS

14 10 2013

“Adamczak, takes that idea of boy meets girl and turns it on its head, creating a wonderfully absurd piece that will have you laughing in your seat….Trampoline is easily one of the funniest plays I have seen in a while; a darkly comic take on a familiar theme, which will have you laughing right from the outset.” – The AU Review

The show is off to a great start, a completely sold out first week and some great reviews starting to pop up (will post more as they come out). I am joyfully overwhelmed with the response* so far and am extremely proud of everyone involved in this show. But there’s still work to be done…

Good tickets still available for the rest of the season, but are selling fast, so if you don’t want to miss out (and you don’t want to miss out, do you?!) make sure you book through The Blue Room Theatre Website. Booking in advance is fun and easy. We like when you do it.

“ This dark comedy is equal parts touching, funny, awkward and sad, and the characters will tug at your heartstrings and refuse to let go.” –Bloodyunderrated.net (Canada)

“The three-person cast were incredible, clearly experienced performers, who immersed themselves in their roles and drew the audience into the tale from the very beginning. …The 60 minute play was performed without a hitch, and was, and is likely to remain, the most enjoyable hour of my week. I cannot recommend this production more highly.” – Colosoul Magazine

“Shane has skilfully constructed a superb script with several genres of comedy, from subtle to slapstick, all smoothly blended…The acting under the directorship of Damon Lockwood was wonderful. The expressions, characterisation, accents and body language were well-observed and fully exploited, to achieve maximum fun…One of the Blue Room’s funniest shows for a long time. Great team work. Highly recommended.” – Theatre Australia

*I don’t know if I can treat it as a credible media source, but a friend’s teenage daughter told me she liked the show “Even more than WICKED” which really made me smile.
